Sacramental Preparation- Becoming Catholic
If you are an adult who is interested in joining the Catholic Church we invite you to participate in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). The process is year around and you can enter at any time. An adult must be in RCIA for twelve months (i.e., an entire liturgical year) prior to being received into the church at the Easter Vigil. Adult Formation - Confirmation
For practicing Catholic adults, who for some reason or another, were never confirmed, there is a Diocesan Adult Confirmation held each year. Preparation for the reception of this sacrament takes place between Easter and Pentecost. Please contact Deacon John Kranz via e-mail: , at or by phone, 801-328-8941, sometime during Lent to inquire about instruction for Confirmation. Adult Confirmation classes will be held Tuesday evenings.
The classes begin at 6:30 PM and go to 7:30 PM and are held in the Board Room (Bishop Hunt Center: 3rd building (red) from the Cathedral. Go to north door and ring the bell.). No registration necessary, Please arrive at the first class and everything will be provided.
The Sacrament of Confirmation for ADULT Catholics (no one younger than 17) will be celebrated at the Cathedral of the Madeleine.
Children’s Education - English
Children’s Faith Formation Classes: Open registration will take place for registered cathedral parishioners children on Sunday, August 25 after the 11 A.M. Mass in Scanlan Hall, Room 5. Baptism Certificates/First Communion Certificates/Parish Registration forms and full payment is due at the time of registration. Registration will continue on Sunday, September 8thfrom 9:30-10:45 A.M. in Room 5 until classes are filled. Classes meet on Sunday mornings from 9:30-10:45 AM on the lower level of the Cathedral for grades 2-11. Pre-Kindergarten through 1stgrade meet at 9:45-10:45 a.m.
Bishop Solis has changed the Faith Formation program beginning 2019-2020 school year. All first-year students in 2nd– 6thgrades will attend a 2-year program for First Communion. Second year students returning this year will complete sacramental preparation classes for Confirmation/First Communion.
First year students in 7th-11thgrades will attend two years of sacramental preparation for Confirmation. Students must meet the requirements of attendance, homework and Mass attendance. Mandatory monthly parents meeting are held on the first Sunday of the month at the Madeleine Choir School from 9:30-1030 a.m.
The sacramental preparation program is a 2-year program for students in second grade and above. Confirmation/First Communion sacraments are held each year. For Catholics who have been away from the church and have returned or are thinking about returning there are often unresolved reasons that led to your departure. The Cathedral is beginning a discussion group for Catholics interested in returning to the church. The group will be facilitated by Ms. Tracey Fredman and Deacon John Kranz.
